1970 Plymouth Superbird

1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird-side

Details

This car (and its sister, the Dodge Charger Daytona) was built specifically to give Chrysler an advantage on the new NASCAR superspeedways. With radical aero styling, these designs were too extreme for the general public, and as a result, many sat on dealer lots, unsold. However, they were very successful on the track, winning the 1970 NASCAR championship (Dodge) and becoming the first car to exceed 200 mph on a closed course.
